#7 (July 20—26, 2007)
Player of the Week: JUAN MUJICA, OF, DC GRAYS
Juan Mujica of
the DC Grays has been selected as the seventh Player of the Week for
the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Mujica,
an outfielder from Southern University, hit .345 for the week and collected
three RBIs to help the Grays go 4-3. He hit a double, stole three bases
and scored seven runs this week as well. In the Grays’ July 22
victory against the Bethesda Blue Caps, Mujica went 2-for-5 with an
RBI and two runs scored. The rising junior from Caracas, Venezuela went
2-for-4 and knocked in one run against the Maryland Orioles on July
21. Mujica led the league in batting average, runs, doubles and stolen
bases this season, and also tied for the league lead in hits. He was
a strong team leader for the DC Grays this season.
BACKGROUND: This spring with Southern University,
Mujica batted .318 with two triples and 15 RBI in 25 games
.
Pitcher
of the Week: BILLY TINSLEY, RHP, VIENNA SENATORS
Billy Tinsley
of the Vienna Senators has been selected as the seventh Pitcher of the
Week for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season.
Tinsley, a left-handed pitcher and rising senior at Winthrop University,
made two appearances and held opposing batters to a .216 batting average
in the Senators’ way to a 6-1 record this week. He threw 10 innings,
and struck out 15 batters. He ended the week with a 0.00 ERA and walked
just three batters. Tinsley, a transfer from George Mason University,
combined for a shutout on July 20 against the McLean Raiders. In that
game, he went 8 innings and struck out 10. Tinsley was an important
part of the Senators’ rotation this spring. For the team, he went
3-1 with a 3.41 ERA. He struck out 36 batters this season and only issued
eight walks this season.
BACKGROUND: With Winthrop this spring, Tinsley
made three appearances and had a 2.70 ERA…with George Mason in
2006, he made 16 appearances and pitched 27 innings. In 2005 with the
Patriots, he won one game and threw seven innings…at Bishop Denis
O’Connell High School, he earned all-Washington Catholic Athletic
Conference and All-State honors as a junior. He went 16-4 as a career
at O’Connell High School.

#6 (July 13—19, 2007)
Player of the Week: RYAN METZROTH, OF, McLEAN RAIDERS
Ryan Metzroth
of the McLean Raiders, one of the newest franchises in the Clark Griffith
League has been selected as the sixth Player of the Week for the 2007
Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Metzroth, an outfielder
from the University of Richmond, hit .400 for the week with two doubles
and two home runs. He collected seven RBIs and scored nine runs to help
the Raiders go 4-3. On July 14 against the Maryland Orioles, Metzroth
went 3-for-4 with four RBI to help lead the team to a 10-9 win. In the
Raiders’ July 15 victory against the Bethesda Blue Caps, Metzroth
went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. The Agoura Hills, Calif.
native hit his fifth homer of the season that night. Metzroth led the
league in hits for the week with 10 and RBI with 10 as well.
BACKGROUND: At the University of Richmond,
Metzroth appeared in 58 games during the 2006 and 2005 seasons…he
lettered twice in baseball and once in cross country at Agoura High
School…he was captain of his high school baseball team as a senior…named
an American Legion All-Star after his junior & senior high school
season…as a senior, he hit .420 with 34 RBI.
Pitcher
of the Week: SCOTT EASTMENT, RHP, FAIRFAX NATIONALS
Scott Eastment
of the Fairfax Nationals has been selected as the sixth Pitcher of the
Week for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season.
Eastment, a right-handed pitcher and rising junior at Frostberg State
University, threw a complete game shutout this week to help the Nationals
to a 3-2 record. The Warrenton, Va. native threw 7 innings of a doubleheader
against the Gaithersburg Giants of the Maryland Collegiate Baseball
League on July 14. In the contest, he struck out five batters, and only
allowed four hits and two walks. He ended the week with a 0.00 ERA and
a .160 opposing batting average. The victory allowed Eastment to go
3-0 on the season.
BACKGROUND: With Frostburg State this spring,
Eastment went 8-2 while pitching 78.2 innings and striking out 37 batters…Before
attending FSU, Eastment attended Georgetown University…Eastment
lettered four times at Paul VI Catholic High School.

Player of the Week: SAM HONECK, 1B, VIENNA SENATORS
Sam Honeck of
the Vienna Senators has been selected as the fifth Player of the Week
for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Honeck,
a first baseman from Grayson Community College, hit .458 for the week,
smacked six home runs and collected 12 RBIs to help the Senators go
6-0. Honeck, who will be transferring to Tulane this fall, hit a home
run in every game this week. His latest longball on July 12 drove in
the winning runs for Vienna against the Fairfax Nationals. That July
12 win against Fairfax put the Senators in first place for the first
time this season. The Austin, Texas native leads the league in slugging
and on-base percentage and is tied for first in HRs.
BACKGROUND: This spring with Grayson Community
College, Honeck batted .372 with 12 home runs and 56 RBI… Honeck
was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2006.
Pitcher
of the Week: NATE NEWMAN, RHP, VIENNA SENATORS
Nate Newman of
the Vienna Senators has been selected as the fifth Pitcher of the Week
for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Newman,
a right-handed pitcher and rising junior from Grayson Community College,
made two appearances and held opposing batters to a .102 batting average
in the Senators’ way to a 6-0 record this week. The Houston, Texas
native threw 15 innings, and struck out 22 batters on his way to two
victories. He ended the week with a 0.60 ERA and walked just two batters
and only gave up 5 hits. Newman, who will be transferring to Pepperdine,
combined for a shutout against the Bethesda Blue Caps on July 3, as
he hurled eight innings and struck out nine batters. Newman also helped
his team in a 12-3 victory against the Fairfax Nationals on July 11,
by throwing seven innings and striking out thirteen.
BACKGROUND: With Grayson Community College
this spring, Newman made eight appearances and struck out 20 batters...This
is the second Pitcher of the Week Award for Newman this season, who
also won the 2007 Home Run Derby, by slugging 8 home runs in the final
round…This is his second season with the Vienna Senators.

of the Week: LEE BOLYARD, IF, BETHESDA BLUE CAPS
Lee Bolyard of
the Bethesda Blue Caps, one of the newest franchises in the Clark Griffith
League has been selected as the fourth Player of the Week for the 2007
Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Bolyard, an infielder
from Johns Hopkins University, hit .476 for the week, and collected
5 RBIs to help the Blue Caps. He hit four doubles and scored five runs
this week as well. In the Blue Caps’ June 26 victory against the
McLean Raiders, Bolyard went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The rising sophomore from Burke, Va. went 3-for-4 and knocked in three
runs with two doubles against the DC Grays on June 27. Bolyard led the
league in on-base percentage and doubles for the week.
BACKGROUND: This spring with Johns Hopkins,
Bolyard batted .342 with 8 doubles and 20 RBI in 38 games…Bolyard’s
baseball team advanced to the state quarterfinals as a senior at Lake
Braddock High School…with Lake Braddock, he was an all-district
selection for four years…he was an all-state selection as a senior.
Pitcher
of the Week: GABRIEL RIOS, RHP, FAIRFAX NATIONALS
Gabriel Rios of
the Fairfax Nationals has been selected as the fourth Pitcher of the
Week for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season.
Rios, a right-handed pitcher and rising junior at Urbana University,
made two appearances and held opposing batters to a .217 batting average
in the Nationals’ way to a 5-0 record this week. The Lorian, Ohio
native threw 13 innings, and struck out 12 batters. He ended the week
with a 0.69 ERA and walked just four batters. Rios helped his team in
a 5-1 victory against the McLean Raiders on June 22, by throwing seven
innings and striking out seven. On June 28, he pitched six innings in
a game against the Vienna Senators that was suspended due to poor weather.
He gave up seven hits in the six innings and struck out five.
BACKGROUND: With Urbana University this spring,
Rios went 0-2 with a 3.81 ERA in seven appearances…he struck out
15 and walked 14 this spring at Urbana...Rios transferred to Urbana
from Glen Oaks CC where he was named to the All-State and All-Region
team…Rios helped Glen Oaks CC to a Regional Runner-Up finish in
2005.

Player
of the Week: ALEX GREGORY, IF, FAIRFAX NATIONALS
Alex Gregory of
the Fairfax Nationals has been selected as the third Player of the Week
for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Gregory,
an infielder from Radford University, hit .357 for the week, smacked
four home runs and collected 10 RBIs to help the Nationals. He hit a
triple and scored nine runs this week as well. In the Nationals’
June 16 Game 1 victory against the Hunt Manor Mavericks, Gregory went
2-for-4 and had three RBI. The rising junior from Great Falls, Va. went
2-for-4 and knocked in three runs with a double and a home run against
the DC Grays on June 19. Gregory leads the league in slugging percentage,
runs scored, RBI and home runs.
BACKGROUND: This spring with Radford, Gregory
was among the nation’s top batters. He had a .430 average, along
with five home runs and 33 RBI…Gregory was named to the Big South
All-Conference First Team…was batting champion for the Big South
Conference…was also tapped as a CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine Academic
All-District Second Team…for Paul VI Catholic High School, he
was a first-team all-state selection in 2004 and 2005…led Paul
VI to Division I VISBA state championship in 2004…Paul VI High
School career leader in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base
percentage and home runs.
Pitcher
of the Week: NATE NEWMAN, RHP, VIENNA SENATORS

for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Newman,
a right-handed pitcher and rising junior at Grayson Community College,
made two appearances and held opposing batters to a .205 batting average
in the Senators’ way to a 7-0 record. The Houston, Texas native
threw 12.1 innings in the third week, and struck out 16 batters. He
ended the week with a 1.46 ERA and walked just three batters on his
way to a victory. Newman helped his team in a 4-3 victory against the
McLean Raiders on June 21, by throwing six innings and striking out
five. On June 16, he pitched in the first game of a doubleheader against
the Maryland Orioles and struck out 9 on his way to a win. Newman leads
the league in opposing batting average, and is third in strikeouts.
BACKGROUND: With Grayson Community College
this spring, Newman made eight appearances and struck out 20 batters...This
is his second season with the Vienna Senators.

Player
of the Week: LaDALE HAYES, OF, DC GRAYS
LaDale Hayes of
the DC Grays has been selected as the second Player of the Week for
the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Hayes,
an outfielder from Alabama A&M University, hit .389 for the week
and collected six RBIs to help the DC Grays. He hit a double, a triple
and a home run and scored four runs as well. In the Grays’ June
12 victory against the first-place Fairfax Nationals, Hayes went 1-for-4
with an RBI. The rising junior from Stafford, Va. collected one of the
five hits the team got against the Nationals and one of the two RBIs.
Hayes went 2-for-4 and knocked in 3 RBI against the McLean Raiders on
June 11. Hayes, an agriculture and business management major, has also
been a tremendous support to his team, being a vocal leader on the field.
BACKGROUND: Hayes led the nation in triples
this season with .21 triples per game…Hayes was named to the first-team
All-SWAC this season with Alabama A&M…he led the Bulldogs
in almost every offensive category with 39 hits, 22 RBI, nine doubles,
eight triples and three home runs…also notched 10 outfield assists
this spring with the Bulldogs…was a featured player of the national
baseball publication, BlackCollegeBaseball.com…was the team MVP
as a freshman at Alabama A&M.
Pitcher
of the Week: AARON LOUP, LHP, VIENNA SENATORS
Aaron Loup of
the Vienna Senators has been selected as the second Pitcher of the Week
for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season. Loup,
a left-handed pitcher and rising sophomore at Tulane University, made
two appearances and picked up two wins, as the Vienna Senators went
4-1 on the week. Loup held batters to a .231 average in his appearances
and had a 1.64 ERA. The Luling, La. native threw 11 innings in the second
week, and struck out 13 batters. He got his first start on June 8 against
the DC Grays, as the Senators went on to win 17-1. In his next outing
on June 14, Loup pitched for six innings and struck out eight batters.
For the League, Loup ranks second in strikeouts and is tied for first
in wins.
BACKGROUND: As a freshman with Tulane this
spring, Loup went 2-1 and pitched 35 innings, struck out 36 batters
and walked just 11…With Hahnville High School, he helped his team
to four state playoff appearances…posted a combined 32-7 record
and struck out 121 during his prep career…two-time first-team
All-District 6-5A and all-metro honoree…was the only underclassman
on the 2004 all-state team after going 10-0 and notching a 1.02 ERA…threw
a complete-game no-no against Terrebonne High School as a sophomore.

of the Week: ROBBIE SHIELDS, IF, McLEAN RAIDERS
Robbie Shields
of the McLean Raiders has been selected as the inaugural Player of the
Week for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season.
Shields, an infielder from Florida Southern University, had an outstanding
week as he hit .316 and collected five RBIs to help the McLean Raiders
go 5-0 to open the season. He hit three doubles and a home run and scored
seven runs in the opening week. In the Raiders’ season opener
victory against the Vienna Senators on June 1, Shields went 2-for-5
and had an RBI. The rising sophomore from Dade City, Fla. scored three
of the team’s 10 runs that night as well. Shields went 2-for-4
and knocked in a run against the Bethesda Blue Caps on June 5.
BACKGROUND: Shields was named first-team all-conference
in his junior and senior years at Pasco High School…was named
Pasco County Player of the Year as a senior…he hit .553 and slugged
18 home runs and 40 RBIs…was named to Pasco High School’s
academic honor roll every year.
Pitcher
of the Week: MIKE MANFRO, RHP, FAIRFAX NATIONALS
Mike Manfro of
the Fairfax Nationals has been selected as the inaugural Pitcher of
the Week for the 2007 Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League season.
Manfro, a right-handed pitcher and rising sophomore at Wingate University,
made two appearances and held opposing batters to a .150 batting average
on the Nationals’ way to a 4-1 record. The Warrenton, Va. native
threw 6.1 innings in the first week and only surrendered three hits.
He gave up one earned run and struck out seven batters in his first
week in the Clark Griffith League. Manfro’s first appearance came
in relief against the Vienna Senators on June 4. He pitched 3.1 innings
and held the Senators to only two hits. Manfro again faced the Senators
on June 10, starting on the mound for the Nationals. Manfro pitched
seven innings, gave up one hit and issued three walks. For the League,
he ranks third in opposing batting average, and second in batters struck
out looking.
BACKGROUND: With Wingate, Manfro went 3-1,
pitched 15 innings, and held opposing batters to a .236 average…With
the Notre Dame Academy, he helped his team win the school’s third
straight Virginia Independent State Championship (VISBA Division II)…In
2006, he went 9-1 overall with a 1.36 ERA. He threw two no-hitters during
his senior season, and as a batter hit .393….was a three-time
Washington Post All-Extra first team selection…He also played
at Fauquier High School. For a high school career, Manfro went 20-2
overall with a 1.14 ERA. He had nine complete games and 157 strikeouts.
